Dare to be Different! British MODE magazine for Beyond Burlesque!

I have a double page spread in British MODE wearing Beyond Burlesque couture wedding dresses with Chloe-Jasmine Whichello :D The designer, Belinda Chorley, also designs forVivienne Westwood, who made Dita Von Teese's famous purple wedding gown for her marriage to Marilyn Manson. Interestingly, the dress I'm wearing here is an ivory homage to that very gown.

Photographer: Dave Kai-Piper | HMUA: Candy Alderson

I still need to track down a copy for my memories box! It's the October 2013 issue if anyone I know happens to spot one- please pick it up for me and I'll give you the £££!

It's pretty cool for me to be published in two high fashion magazines in the same month- Vogue and MODE. I wish I could go back in time to 14 year-old me, crushed that I'd not grown to 5'8 and therefore couldn't model, and tell her that everything is going to be okay!

Yours happily,

Video of Anita De Bauch modelling Anathema Designs at a photo shoot

I had a lovely shoot at home today- a four hour 1930s glamour shoot that worked perfectly in my 1930s lounge. Hopefully I'll be able to share the photos here soon :)

In the meantime, let's have a video for #NakedSundays for a change! This is a BTS video from a fashion shoot for Anathema Designs, a beautiful high-end bespoke London jeweller and my latest sponsor. Expect to see more of her work appearing in my photos soon! What a pleasure it was to do this shoot; I'm so happy she made this video of it and let me share it :)

I have a consultation with my other new sponsor tomorrow, Bare Skin Beauty, a raw organic natural skincare company that I'm super excited about (I just recently wrote a whole blog about the lip balm!) because I'm well into natural skincare and their products have already improved my skin dramatically. Tomorrow I'll be chatting with Juliette about my diet and lifestyle and having her analyse my skin to suggest further improvements I can make. It should be really interesting!

I ate quite a bit of fatty food (fried mushrooms and tomatoes for lunch, Chelsea buns as shoot snacks!) today as I noticed at yesterday's shoot I was starting to look, imo, too skinny; I know I get cross when people complain about being able to see my ribcage, but really, it was ridiculous, my stomach was just too small and my arms looked like matchsticks when I wasn't flexing them (I have pretty good biceps!)... I think the main issue is that I looked how I felt, viz skinny, pasty and sweaty. I had to keep piling on the blusher as there wasn't a trace of blood in my face and drinking gallons of water. I haven't been eating any less than usual so I think it must a combination of having a sudden detoxing step forward (I was also getting headaches today), overwork, and re-introducing daily workouts after I just didn't have time for about a month. It's nothing to worry about, in fact I even noticed in the shots today that my booty was looking nice and round again ;) I probably just lost every last ounce of water retention all in one go.

Detox tea and bed! I'm out of green smoothie ingredients so porridge with rice milk for breakfast tomorrow, I guess!

Fabulously Fetish website launch!

High-end bespoke fetish shoe design team Fabulously Fetish re-launched their website at midnight last night, fabulouslyfetish.co.uk, with lots of photos from a specially commissioned shoot we did with Phine Ka, a wonderful fashion photographer I've shot with many times now :)

You probably already saw the teasers on Fabulously Fetish's Facebook/ Twitter/ Tumblr (click them to see larger versions):

hair and makeup by yours truly!

Here are some of my favourite photos they're currently using on the website, in my very own gallery!

Patent leather bullet bra with spiral stitching

To see the rest of the images (yep, there's more!) click here to browse the gallery!

I love Fabulously Fetish because everything they do is done with such expert care and attention to detail. Their shoes are all made from the best materials, gorgeous buttery patent leather being my personal favourite, in a rainbow of colours, and all made with careful thought as to how the shoe is actually going to work when being worn, how to get the possible arch and silhouette, etc.

They have carefully measured my legs and feet in person so they have a kind of mold of them they can make perfectly fitting shoes from! Atm they are working on a pair of apricot patent leather lace-up platform boots for me, in a colour to exactly match my hair! I can't wait to see them and show them off!

And yes I do know how lucky I am to be sponsored by Fabulously Fetish shoes- surely every girl's dream

Published in British Vogue magazine!

Here's something I never thought I'd say- I've been published in Vogue!

I'm in an advertorial featuring Beyond Burlesque bespoke bridalwear called 'Vogue's Wedding Wishlist' on page 257 of the November "Autumn fashion" issue. I found out on Monday night and shot out of the house in dressing gown and flip-flops with only half my nails painted to try and track down a copy right away! Which I didn't actually need to do as two people on my Facebook page pm'd me scans, while I was running around East Finchley like an insane person, which was super sweet and kind, thank you :)

Photographer: Dave Kai-Piper | HMUA: Candy Alderson

The other model is Chloe-Jasmine Whichello, who I've worked with a couple of times now :) The funny thing is, I was actually filling in for another model who dropped out at the last minute. Why do people do that?? Anyway, it worked out well for me! I do have an actual copy of the magazine now, that is going in my memories box under my bed, once I've finished stroking it!

You might have seen Chloe-Jasmine on The Face atm, if you have the Living channel! She's on Naomi Campbell's team. I managed to watch a bit online last night, it looked harsh! I can watch anything involving Erin O'Connor though, I absolutely worship her!

Anyway, here's a BTS snap of me and C-J at the Beyond Burlesque/ Vogue shoot, which was shortly after The Face shoot wrapped, I think, because I remember us chatting about Naomi ;) Nothing C-J wasn't allowed to chat about, of course- I still don't know any better than you who's going to win! We'll have to watch and see!

A slightly less serious shot of me and C-J! We were channelling Eddie and Patsy :p

I've not really done much this morning except make a gluten-free vegan lasagne (no Bechamel sauce, mushrooms instead of mince and nutritional yeast instead of cheese) to pop in the oven when I get home from my job this afternoon, no doubt starving as usual! I may also make some butter-free garlic bread using olive oil, nomnomnom. Must get more admin done tomorrow though, I'm overwhelmed with emails, thousands of photos to sort through, shoots to organise etc atm! It's good to be in demand :)

Lips to die for and how to get them! Bare Skin Beauty Chamomile & Honey Lip Saver review. Or: Is it worth buying a £5 lip balm?

I get lots of questions about how to maintain photo-ready pin-up girl skin, and always say the main three things are:

  1. stop smoking
  2. start drinking a Glowing Green Smoothie for breakfast
  3. use natural skincare

Petroleum =/= beauty

Most of the stuff you get in the chemist or supermarket, whether it's the super cheap stuff or expensive designer brands, is pretty minging when you get right down to it. My eyes were opened when I learned that petroleum, which is the main ingredient in almost every commercial lip balm (just read the ingredients list!) attacks the natural collagen in your skin, speeding up the appearance of wrinkles! So I tried Burt's Bees lip balm, which uses beeswax as the base instead of petroleum. Over an admittedly fairly long period of months of using organic petroleum-free lip balm, I noticed that my lips looked smoother and fuller. I wasn't getting the ridges in my lipstick at photo shoots, or having it keep travelling upwards into those vertical lines that cross the upper lip line. This was a couple of years ago. Now I'm older, but my lips look younger :)

Designer vs Natural Skincare

Well, that got me interested in natural skincare as a whole! I'd always figured that something specifically engineered in a lab had to be more effective than something that occurred in nature. Now I think there are two problems with this seemingly reasonable hypothesis:

  1. We evolved within only natural environments, so it makes a kind of sense that we'd react better to natural ingredients than new/ modern ones.
  2. Just because something amazing could be engineered in a lab, doesn't always mean it actually has been. Massive corporations have motivation to keep costs down and profits up. If say, good advertising did more to sell products than their actual effectiveness, there's no question that more money would then be invested in the advertising than the product. It just makes good business sense. Ditto using cheap ingredients over quality ones.

Good lip balm is a bondage model's best friend!

I wear lip balm every day, re-applying regularly from when I first brush my teeth in the morning to when I go to bed at night. I like to let it soak in! Red lipstick doesn't look good over chapped lips! I keep lip balm in my handbag and like to use it as a lipstick base- it acts like a moist Polyfilla, making my lips look extra smooth, full and plump!

I've read advice from makeup artists saying you should use your makeup foundation as a lipstick base, but it just doesn't work the same!

Today I tried using Bare Skin Beauty Chamomile & Honey Lip Saver as a lipstick base at my bondage shoot. I know a lot of bondage models wear little or no makeup at bondage shoots, because it's a bit of a gamble- you naturally end up in some odd positions and if your makeup smears/ runs/ flakes/ otherwise goes awry, you don't have a free hand to fix it with! And end up with a bunch of crappy pictures. I can't bear being shot without my red lipstick unless it's really frigging necessary so I work on doing makeup that holds- I use a lip brush and lip liner, makeup fix spray and a waxy lip balm base for my lipstick. Today I actually forgot to use the fix spray, but still, my lipstick stayed looking like this:

Not bad, right?

Is Bare Skin Beauty Chamomile & Honey Lip Saver worth a fiver?

I upgraded from £1 or less ageing petroleum jelly horrortins from Superdrug to natural lip balms ages ago and after seeing the change in my lips, begrudgingly concluded that the price difference was worth it. But a full £5 for a pot of lip balm?

Now I actually have it, I wish I'd made the switch years ago- I would have actually saved money. A tiny, tiny amount of this stuff goes a really long way- I'm talking a micro-blob about the size of a third of a grain of rice that just melts and covers my whole lips! I really like to slather lip balm on too, to make my lips extra shiny. That's right, an application the size of half a grain of rice is more than enough! This one little jar I have is going to last me months, and I use a lot of lip balm!

Up until now I’ve been using organic natural lip balm from an eBay seller, which was okay but not as greasy- it pulled at my lips more during application, had little scratchy bits in it that I had to pick out o.O and ran out really fast. I like a really greasy lip balm that will make my lips feel lubricated and look glossy, as well as being really moisturising and softening.

Bare Skin Beauty Chamomile & Honey Lip Saver has a light herby taste that I quite like. Boyfy said he couldn’t taste the honey but my lips do indeed feel softer! I think there's going to be a jar in my mother's and grandmother's Christmas packages this year :) It should be extra useful for protecting against the upcoming months of biting winter winds.

I hope this blog helps anyone interested in raw, organic natural skincare and makeup that makes you look good in the long-term as well as immediately after you put them on :) Please feel free to use the comments section below to share your thoughts, esp. if you give Chamomile & Honey Lip Saver a try yourself!

3 Upcoming Studio Days

It's been such a busy couple of weeks with so much planning as well as actual shooting! I'm happy to have so much to do but can't help but feel that having an extra six hours in every day would really help ;) I'm still making sure to take time out to breathe, walk, stretch, eat, sleep and even squeeze in the odd Pilates or yoga workout to help me keep that precious balance as well as look my best for my shoots :)

So, partly for the photographers that read my blog and partly for myself, I thought I'd list my upcoming studio days with a few useful notes and contact information for anyone interested in booking me at one or more of them. I make suggestions for genres I like and wardrobe I have but always love to hear your ideas and work on your vision with you :)

  1. Adrian Pini Studios Day, North London, 26th October- SOLD OUT. We will hopefully be arranging another one in February :)
  2. Space Studio Day, St Albans, 9th November. I did a black and white fashion nude shoot here recently with some lovely pieces (including an amazing stingray leather jacket from Lady Allura!). It's a well laid-out space with natural light and big windows as well as studio lighting and paper backdrops, and a nice high ceiling. They also have a ringflash, which makes latex look amazing! It would usually be £60ph to book me in the studio, but we are offering our services for £50ph on 9th November :) I'll be available to shoot all styles up to art nude levels. I believe that two hours have been booked off so far, so there are six hours still available.
  3. Fine & Dan Dee Studio/ Dungeon Day sponsored by Lady Allura's Latex, Wokingham, 16th November. I sold out my first Fine & Dan Dee Studio and was really happy to be able to offer photographers a real, functioning, clean, quality dungeon to shoot in as well as a little studio with paper backdrops on a studio day. It's so different! We can shoot whatever we like of course, especially against the blank canvas environment of the studio, but with the dungeon available it really lends itself to edgy, fetish, alt sort of styles, from fashion to art nude levels. This studio day will be sponsored by Lady Allura's Latex, who will provide a selection of beautiful latex couture for us to choose from at no additional charge (and with no obligation to share photos afterwards or anything). There's no catch, it's just a really good deal :) £50ph, with four 2 hour sessions available @ £100 each:
Click the image for larger version

If you would like to ask about booking some time at one of these studio days, ask a question about them or suggest another studio you'd like me to do a studio day at, please email contact@anitadebauch.com. Thanks!

Black latex catsuit in the woods, yum! And check out my new hair colour!

So, over the last couple of days I have:
  • got a new haircut (as mentioned in previous blog!)
  • got a new(ish) hair colour- apricot instead of copper, which is much lighter/ brighter (see below!!!)
  • done a super-exciting casting type of thing that I can't talk about yet because I had to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA), argh! haha
  • arranged a cover shoot for my book, The Ugly Girl's Guide to Modelling, which is due out 31st October :D
  • ordered an amazing latex corset for the aforementioned cover shoot :D
  • organised which photos are going to go where in Ugly Girl and asked the respective photographers, who range from weekend hobbyists to industry legends, for permission to use them, and they all said yes :D bar two who I'm waiting to hear back from, but fingers crossed they'll say yes too :) Looking at the digital layout is so exciting now it's almost full of beautiful high-res colour photos. I can't wait till I have the last two internal images, and the edited cover images, in my hot little hands so I can order a test copy of the book! It's gotta be perfect :)
  • done a couple of outdoor photo shoots, including latex in the woods (BELOW!!!) and a romantic nighttime bridal shoot on a bridge over the Thames
Photographer: Pete McCafferey | Latex catsuit: Murray and Vern | Tightlacing corset: Heavenly Corsets | Styling and location scouting: me :)
  • booked two studio days, one at Adrian Pini Studios in North London on 26th October and one at James Ward Photography Studio in Hertfordshire on 9th November, both of which are £50ph. Please leave a comment here or email me if you'd like to book :) contact@anitadebauch.com
  • finally started redecorating my lounge, starting with putting up a white base coat. This will be useful for tomorrow as I'm shooting at home- it'll be convenient to have one or two plain white walls to shoot against, as well as a nice old-fashioned panel door, which will all require less retouching now they've had a fresh lick of paint :)
  • drafted (but not yet finished) an article for Nocturnal Girls on my nocturnal outdoor "streets of London" nude shoot with them- I hope it will make you smile :)
  • managed to ladder my stocking at a casting:
Please click here if you'd like to buy it! Just select 'Beige with Contrast Black Seams' from the dropdown menu- you can either order this one by itself, or the pair :) First come, first serve, gentlemen!
  • booked a TV interview at my home for later this month- scary! Hence finally getting on with finishing the redecorating ;)
  • been invited to a movie premier in London- hell yes! Just hope my new comp cards arrive in time as I feel I will be networking my ass off... well, maybe
  • been invited to Perou's Bunker party next month :D
  • looking forward to London Fetish Weekend- I'll be on the catwalk and Lady Allura's Latex stall on the Saturday, if anyone spots me, do come up and say hello :) I won't bite ;)
  • I also somehow managed to squeeze in a couple of Pilates workouts somewhere :p
My schedule for tomorrow is just get up, clean the house from top to bottom for my shoot (including putting the lounge back together), shoot for 2 hours, do the last bit of base-coat painting in the lounge, finish writing my Nocturnal Girls article, then pack and get an early night for my fetish shoot on Friday, phew! It will be a good warm up for being at the London Fetish Weekend all day Saturday, that's for sure :D

I thrive on being busy but am trying to balance it with making a clear "time out" point in the day when I stop working and do something completely self-indulgent and non-work-related, e.g. having a candlelit bath and then watching Wayne's World in bed last night :)

Aaaaaand I just bought a massive Persian rug while typing this. Gotta love the internet. I would actually be completely screwed without it.

Good night!

Beyond Burlesque bridalwear by Dave Kai-Piper

Fun day today! I've been feeling a bit tired/ unmotivated for a little while now but an amazingly inspiring email from Ivory Flame has cheered me right up :) I'm pottering around my flat in London doing my own thing for a couple of days while Liam is visiting family in Somerset and feeling my energy levels slowly going back up.

I've been up at 7am or so the last couple of mornings getting back into Pilates, which always seems to get me back in shape within a week, as long as I stick at it! It's satisfying when you can feel yourself getting stronger :) Then I had my darling green smoothie and went to meet Simon Pinto to get my hair cut professionally for the first time in at least a year! After a couple of bad experiences with hairdressers doing unpredictable things to my hair I went back to just chopping the ends of myself in the bathroom when they felt like they needed it, haha. But then I got the itch to have a real, proper style again, rather than just an uninspiring longish mop.

The venue for the haircut was really cool- a barber's in Carnaby Street called Pankhurst, which seriously looks like somewhere James Bond would go to get his hair cut! if I was a bachelor, my whole flat would be decorated like their barbershop! I'm thinking of booking an appointment for a cut and shave for Liam for Christmas or something, with the proper cutthroat razor and hot towels and stuff. Totally what I would do if I was a dude!!

Simon and I came up with a haircut between us that I can make simple adjustments to to look either a) natural/ girl next door-like, b) vintage or c) punky, which is going to make my life so much easier and hairstyling so much quicker at shoots :D

After my appointment I inhaled a superfood salad from Pret as thanks to all my fussing and Simon's professional perfectionism, despite meeting at 11am we didn't finish cutting until 2pm, lol. I'm always starving for lunch by 1pm. Then I got the tube to Camden to buy hair dye from the market and other little treats for myself: three bunches of flowers and six bars of dark chocolate, totalling £7.77 from Lidl :p The house feels happier now that there are flowers and chocolates everywhere!

I'm also brightening up my colour a little, at least temporarily, to a kind of strawberry blonde/ apricot colour. My hair's actually blonde as I type this as I had to pre-lighten it! At least now I know that I can be blonde within 24 hours if anyone needs me to be for work! I just need to keep a box of the bleach in stock.

I'm doing a cool little conceptual shoot at home with Dan Hubbert tomorrow to capture the blonde-ness, then having a hair dye break, blow drying it and shooting some more with the new apricot colour! You'll have to wait til then to see me blonde as I don't seem to be able to get a good picture of it on my phone!

Here's a photo with my old hair, taken last month at a shoot for Beyond Burlesque bridalwear. The photographer was Dave Kai-Piper, who I'd met before but not actually shot with, so it was good to finally work together :)

I think this is my favourite shot of the day. It feels more editorial and like a modernised version of a pre-Raphaelite lady reclining in some sort of enchanted woodland (actually, a garden in Crouch End :p). If I remember correctly, Belinda said that this dress was inspired by/ a homage to Dita's wedding dress, which was made by Vivienne Westwood, the company Belinda designs for when she's not doing her own thing with Beyond Burlesque :)

But I also like this catalogue shot... I felt like such a Disney princess in this dress, it was amazing!

I must go and make my detox tea and go to bed now as it's 10.30 pm!! Gotta be fresh for 7am Pilates ;)

nine inch nails at belsonic :D aka i wear my sunglasses at night

long blog alert!!!

I don't know what happened to the capitalisation in this post; i'm feeling really sleepy today and just letting the ipad put them in wherever it thinks :p

just got back from a mental 36 hours in Belfast with my boyfriend, our photographer flatmate dan and our lighting engineer friend john! We left home at like 5am so we could be in belfast early to check in at our party hostel and get the drinks in before seeing NINE INCH NAILS!!!

We went to a bar called voodoo for vodka and soda with lots of lime wedges for me and beer for the boys that was like a dark red cave inside with a voodoo shrine behind the bar :) it's fun to be the only girl sometimes :) then to the hostel for makeup and further vodka and then to custom house square for ****NIN!!****

People kept coming up to us on the way because john looks like kerry king :)

i wore the same outfit i wore in the jessie j video: black fishnet top over black bra with comfy canvas bondage trousers, but my old steel toe-capped dms instead of 5" heels because i knew we were in for a long night of running around being silly in belfast :D

red lipstick and my giant round sunglasses all night because i left my normal prescription glasses in london so needed my sunglasses to see!!! I looked like a right fake rockstar with sunglasses + bondage pants + battered red leather biker jacket, lolllllz. Too many people at the after party tried my sunglasses on.

Anyway the gig was AMAZING. LITERALLY THE BEST SHOW I HAVE EVER BEEN TO. SO VERY FUCKING HAPPY ABOUT THAT :D :D :D Sooo worth the flight!

The crowd was small and everyone was super friendly and the light show blew my mind. It was super trippy and perfectly expressed the music and the band were perfect as always! Trent is so hot these days too!! We just raved solidly for the whole set, which was good and long!!!

last song before the encore ('hurt')! we were actually way closer to the stage but this video is far enough back that you can see all the pretty liiiiiiights woooooooo!!!

After the gig some people were going to some club called limelight (NOT slimelight, haha!) but we veered off to this pub/ club doing an ebm after party called hudson's, which was definitely the right choice as it was awesome music and awesome people! apparently they were expecting about 80 people as it was midweek but hundreds turned up :p

Dan went to bed, liam and john roamed the pub together occasionally bumping into me but i was off on my own chatting to people for the most part about lots of random things, not that i can remember all of them, lol.

the dj (fritz) played revolting cocks for us at the end of the night, and actually mixed it in so the hardcore of ebm dancers didn't notice, lol. he then got into some weird long-winded discussion with me on the way out about blade runner, which was all very confusing and mysterious O.o

I do remember chattering away to this irish guy who looked like trent reznor/ flea from the chilli peppers about god knows what (i only remember the look of fear on his face) when john came bounding up with the crucial information that his mate knew somewhere nearby where you could see a family of wild seals. WILD SEALS!

English kerry king running towards us raving about local seals scared irish flea even more, he was well relieved when his mate came back from the bar, LOL. Amazingly they did invite us back to their hotel suite when hudson's shut at 2am but i had to say no as irish flea had to be up at 7am for work... Craziness!

photo from my shoot in brighton i had two days later inserted here to break up all the text :p new dress, new red-soled shoes!!

I asked the bar staff but apparently nowhere in belfast is open after 2am so we were like LUSH now where the fuck are we going to go?? Then john remembered that our hostel supposedly had an all-night common room/ bar so we headed back. Apparently everyone else staying at the hostel who wasn't ready to sleep had the same idea so we had our own little after after party. We don't need other people to have fun!!

I went to bed at like 5 so i could get a couple of hours' snooze before spending a horrible day lurking in the darkest, quietest pub in belfast until it was time to slope back to the airport with our sunglasses on and fly home.

Despite drinking GALLONS of water, i still wasn't really sober and got the right eye from airport security! We did look like a bunch of deep fried freaks: zombie crew in weird black clothes we'd slept in with crazy hair, and sunglasses indoors.

I got the full pat-down because of the 90 million buckles on my bondage trousers setting off the metal detectors and they went through my handbag with that drugs microphone sensor thing as well! No dice, suckers! I'd have to be a pretty dumb drug dealer to actually LOOK like a burnout when carrying drugs! If i was really going to be a drugs mule i'd dress like a fucking librarian!

Anyway, we got on the plane okay, fell asleep, got on the train from gatwick into london, slept on that, slept on the tube, got home, made kim snyder's detox tea, just about managed to drink it all before more beauty sleep for shoot in brighton the next day!!

All the water, sleep and detox tea paid off because i looked fine for a latex/ alt fashion shoot on location on brighton pier and in an old-fashioned sweet shop the next day :) the photos look really good, yay! here's an outtake from the sweetshop in lady lucie latex (apologies if you already saw it on facebook!):

i love my life!

The photographer, sean mccormack, was awesome, and we were even joined by one of his photographer friends part way though who was also super lovely. I also needed to repair my bank account a bit so the shoot was good timing ;)

on brighton pier in my new dress :D

On saturday i met up with the gorgeous roswell ivory for dim sum and flowering jasmine tea at ping pong soho (mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!!!!) for her birthday and to celebrate her getting her steampunk novella published! Will be getting a signed copy of that when it's out, yep!

Ping pong gave us free champagne to celebrate with! :D

 celebrations with roswell

Then we did a bit of shopping in liberty/ selfridges/ h&m (where everything is 90s now, even the dj)/ primark. I bought two my little pony tops for some reason :p one is going to get customised and worn with bowler hat and leopard print leggings for my next clubbing outfit i think, hmmmmmMMMMMMmmmmm! i think my next clubby outing will probably be to see the bug in shoreditch!

love modelling, love fashion, love latex, love doing my own makeup, love nighttime adventures and music and running around on trains and planes in various states of intoxication for all the fun times :D

*MWAH!*

The making of Jessie J's 'It's My Party' music video (new single)

In case you hadn't already guessed from me suddenly RT'ing Jessie J last month, it was her music video I was shooting, I just wasn't allowed to say at the time ;) Now it's been released, I can blab, blab, blab!

I got picked up from my house at 4 am and driven to Malcolm Ryan Studios to shoot the video. We weren't even allowed to tweet our location in case we got overrun by a flash-mob of Jessie fans, but it just so happened that my friend Perou was shooting a billboard ad for a new Fox show upstairs, which was a nice surprise. I'm not sure us playing 'It's My Party' a million times at a million decibels for 16 hours was a nice surprise for him, though :p

Wardrobe liked the outfit I wore to the audition so much that they asked me to wear it in the video :) It's been a while since I teamed a black fishnet top with a dog collar, but turns out, it's like riding a bike ;) I did get a cool biker jacket to wear in one scene, in fact, so I could give it to Jessie at our punk party :) It's a gorgeous jacket, but I was glad to be rid of it; it was SO hot to rave for hours under the boiling hot studio lights in a leather coat!

Jessie's professionalism genuinely blew my mind. She had 100% energy on the first take, 100% energy on the second take, 100% energy on the nineteenth take, and every shot of her (from what I could tell) was perfect and looked effortless, although she must have been even hotter and more tired than the rest of us as she had to shoot a separate solo scene too.

Jessie was singing to herself in between takes when shots were being set up and so on, and my gosh, her voice really is amazing. It has an absolutely pure sound, and trickles completely freely and naturally, like running water, yet is held in perfect and light control. I don't think her records really show what she can do, maybe because then they'd be a bit much for the average pop fan to handle ;) I bet she's good live, though.

Here's a pic Jessie posted on her Instagram of the director and crew filming us in our little party rooms:

Sorry to go on like a bit of a fangirl, but Jessie was also one of the nicest and most genuine/ down-to-earth people I've ever worked with. I'm pretty sure she'll never read this, I'm just saying it 'cos it's true ;)

Anyway... here's the actual video for 'It's My Birthday' :) Hope you like!
