Happy Ness

To get myself back into the time-consuming yet enjoyable habit of blogging, rather than just posting on Instagram, I thought I'd blog my pictures and memories of my most recent trip to Loch Ness, one of my favourite places on Earth.

I do enjoy reading my old blogs once in a while, as they always remind me of travels and moments in my life that I know I'll especially treasure when I'm older... I think the reasons I've been blogging less in the last year or two are:

a) now that I live in the countryside, rather than in London, I tour every month at least once. I enjoy the lifestyle very much, but it would mean a lot more blogs if I wrote up every single one! I used to write quite detailed blogs about my tours when I only did 2 - 3 a year.
b) I'm just very, very busy with doing the actual modelling, touring and behind-the-scenes work, leaving less time to write about it. I do sometimes envy models who have enough time on their hands to blog extensively!

I was on tour for three weeks or so, which is pretty standard for a mainland UK tour, but this time I booked a whole five days off in the middle to go on holiday in Scotland with boyfy. I'm friends with a lovely couple who live in an idyllic log cabin on the shores of Loch Ness, who I met a couple of years ago when I took my little car off-roading and needed rescuing. After dragging me out of the woods in a 4x4, they took me back to their place to sit up drinking Scotch and getting to know each other until the sun rose the next day, and we've stayed in touch ever since.

This picture of my butt has nothing to do with my friends at Loch Ness, but it was shot during this trip to Scotland, so behold my Bettie Grable impression.
Thank you Bareskin Beauty skincare and Mya Minerals eyeshadows.

I had already driven as far as their place over the space of a week or so of working my way up from Somerset, shooting along the way. We picked boyfy up from Inverness Airport and drove along the famous and beautiful Cattle Pass to a gorgeous little pub on the edge of a loch, where the owners row out in their boat every day and serve the catch in the pub that evening, along with lots of very old Scottish whiskies.

After dinner, we "glamped" in what I can only describe as a hobbit log cabin, then continued exploring West Scotland the next day.

We dropped in on Nessie Steve, the world's foremost Loch Ness Monster hunter, and let him know that he was in the new issue of Fortean Times! He gave me a funny little Nessie he made in his converted mobile library home.

We spent our last evening in Scotland on our hosts' private beach on the shores of Loch Ness, with them and their dogs.

We even got taken out onto the Loch in their boat! Then it was party time as the sun went down over the water.

The next day, I showed boyfy Boleskine Burial Ground, and then we started driving South the scenic route via Glencoe, so that we could have a vegetarian haggis lunch at the equally spooky C18th pub, The Drovers' Inn, which is full of taxidermy and antique weaponry. We vowed to return in the winter and spend a night at the inn when the huge open fire is blazing and it's snowing outside!

We/ I have definitely been spoiled this year; we didn't go on holiday for years, but this was our second holiday this year after Paris. Next up we are going to Cornwall in September and Amsterdam for the first time in October. If anyone can recommend places to stay in Amsterdam, do let me know using the link below, as we are still looking for an apartment for four (we are going with another couple we're friends with).

Cover of Sinical Magazine!!! :D

I'm on the cover of the latest issue of Sinical!

I'm particularly thrilled about this cover as having been commissioned to shoot it by Sinical, I was then allowed to choose the photographer (Luci Alice!), designers (mostly Playful Promises, although the corset I'm wearing on the cover was made for me by Heavenly Corsets and the bullet bra is from What Katie Did. The shoes were made specially for my feet by Fabulously Fetish), location, hair, makeup, skincare (Bareskin Beauty), everything myself! I put so much of myself into this image and the pictorial inside and I'm proud of how it's turned out.

Apologies if you already saw these on my Press page!

I've just had my first full day of shooting on this month's tour, which I've rather ambitiously made the whole of Britain. I'm starting in Wales for a few days, then doing a big clockwise lap of Scotland, before making my way back home through England. Hopefully I will get to visit some of my girlfriends at the same time :) Feel free to follow me on Instagram to see my behind-the-scenes tour snaps and videos; new followers always noticed and appreciated :)

I just bought myself a Thermos flask for transporting organic coconut milk cappuccino (new addiction)... tomorrow I have a 2 hour drive to an 8 hour outdoor location nude shoot that finishes at 8pm, then I'm going to zoom to my B&B and basically go straight to bed so that I can get up at ***3.30am*** the following day for another 8 hour outdoor nude shoot starting at dawn, followed by an 8 hour drive to Madame Bink's new house in the Lake District :p So having the ability to transport coffee to remote locations should be a major benefit, especially when teamed up with my giant bar of 74% dark chocolate.

Next up after that is four full days of shooting in Glasgow. I'm glad; it's been SO long since I had time to visit Scotland.

Anita De Bauch vs Kate Moss

My agency sent me off on a rather exciting casting at the Groucho Club today for a job with a popular artist whose work explores and plays with the idea of "sleb" culture and how easily we can be misled by media representation of the "real" world, using only lookalikes of celebrities rather than the celebrities themselves.

This particular project involves making a super-realistic sculpture of Kate Moss and then photographing her with it. The artist saw my photos and measurements and wanted to see if I could be used to cast Kate's torso :)

  L - R: me, Kate Moss

All very flattering for me, of course, but gosh, the last 18 hours have been a bit of a nightmare!

It all began with me idly Googling "kate moss measurements" to see if I was an exact match or merely a very close match, only to discover that she was about an inch smaller all over than I thought she was. I then measured myself in front of the bathroom mirror and discovered that I was an inch bigger all over than I thought I was. Whether or not it was down to it being that time of the month was irrelevant. The casting was in 12 hours and I had 2" to lose on my bust, waist and hips!

I immediately took a probiotic, a milk thistle and a magnesium supplement with a glass of lemon water sprinkled with cayenne pepper. At my boyfriend's suggestion, I slept in a thermal vest with a blanket on top of the duvet to sweat out some water retention overnight. It worked- by morning I had lost an inch all over.

I then did some pilates to flatten my stomach with a cup of hot lemon water then had my breakfast smoothie sans banana and in a very hot Dead Sea salt bath to try and extract some more toxins. This was followed by organic coffee, whitened with coconut water, sprinkled with cinnamon and cocoa powder and served with lots of organic carrot sticks. After all this, I'd lost another inch on my bust and hips but still had one more to go round my waist- I was at 25" instead of the "correct" measurement of 24". I stayed in a tightlaced corset until I left for the casting and hoped that would at least mitigate it!

When I arrived at the Groucho Club I took some topless shots with the artist so she could record what I looked like. She said she'd been having real trouble finding someone both very slim yet not too muscular. I promptly sucked my stomach in to hide my extra inch, but apparently that made my ribs stick out too much, so I don't think I got the job :(

Life is surreal, isn't it? I never thought I'd be writing, "Dear Diary, Today I was turned down for the Kate Moss body double job at the Groucho Club because I'm too boney", but there you are. I feel silly whinging about it, even, but then, this is my blog, and I really wanted this job, it looks so cool :(

Anyway, onto positive things! I'm off to Scotland tomorrow to shoot at Barrie Spence's place and then on Monday I'm shooting a fantastic Klimt-inspired underwater art project with Ivory Flame. I've been wanting to shoot with her for literally years, so having her teach me how to model underwater will be a real treat! I've ordered some floaty skirts to wear as I think they'll look cool; hope they arrive in time!

Anyway, must dash! Sorry for the moaning, I hope you don't mind! My next blog will be much happier, I promise :)

Lots of love,

Anita xxx

Zelig's 'Sartor Resartus' album cover

I seem to remember that one of my new year's resolutions was to work with more rockstars this year (I daren't check the list of resolutions to jog my memory as I'm pretty sure I'm not keeping most of them!). This resolution seems to be going well so far, with an acting role in the most successful British heavy metal band since Iron Maiden, Cradle of Filth's music video for 'Lilith Immaculate', and now an album cover too, for obscure British indie band Zelig :)

You can listen to a track from Sartor Resartus here and buy the album at Zelig shows. Rock 'n' roll!

In slightly less rock 'n' roll news, I had my first ever professional pedicure today! Up until now I've just been doing it myself in the tub every Tuesday evening, but after a hectic whirlwind tour of Scotland and Ireland I feel like paying other people to take a little work off my hands- and my feet too ;) Having someone else pumice my feet made me giggle as I'm ridiculously ticklish but the whole experience was so relaxing and now my feet feel fab! I sort of want to skip around in bare feet ^^ Looking forward to my shoot at Adrian Pini Studios tomorrow- I think we're shooting at least some nudes so hopefully I'll be able to get my toes out at some point :p

HOB

I think I forgot to post this photo >.< I modelled for HOB Salons in March, which is part of the reason for my current short hair- although it has grown out a LOT since these photos were taken!

Here was hair stylist David Spinelli's moodboard for the look:

Proof that I did, at least briefly, have neon orange hair during the dyeing process:

The final shot, by John Rawson:

I'm writing this in St Andrews while drinking tea and getting ready to go to Edinburgh, where I'll be working with the Yerburys for two days, then off to Elgin and then Glasgow. This year's Scottish Tour is going well so far, with every day sold out and a lovely location shoot in a nature reserve yesterday followed by Scottish haddock in an award-winning restaurant for dinner ^^ And the weather is incredibly SUNNY! :D

Red Nose Day. Donating is good for your health. Honest!

It's...

I had various grandiose fund-raising ideas such as a giving a cheap modelling seminar at a London studio (ladies, there are just SO many tips and tricks I could share!) with all proceeds going to charity or doing some manner of sponsored activity but as usual, my time was filled up with work and travel plans so I just chucked some money at them via the website. You should too, and not just because they play you this unique video of Charlie Brooker not being a sarcastic arsehole, for once! Skip your night out drinking this week and donate the money that you would have spent- that way you'll be doing both your liver and disadvantaged people across the UK and Africa a huge favour and won't actually notice the difference to your pocket!

According to their website, it only costs £1.20 to save a Ugandan child from dying of Malaria. That's the same as a single bus journey in London oO So why not walk to work today and donate the £1.20? Not only will you actually save some poor, sick kid, you'll be hauling your butt cheeks up off the backs of your knees and doing your heart a favour as well.

Or take a healthy packed lunch to work and donate the money you would have spent buying lunch at Costa/ the greasy spoon/ McDonald's. Everyone's a winner!

Or you could be boring and just buy a red nose or two, although you can wear them wherever you like...

If you donated or got involved in any way, leave a blog comment! I'd love to hear all about it :)

Peaches and cream :)

Plans for my first European Tour this summer are going well so far (yeah, I like to plan things 4 - 5 months in advance, what of it?). I'm especially looking forward to shooting for Buffies in an eighteenth century French chateau in June, woo! :)

I'll be shooting fashion and glamour assignments in Portugal for the last week of April then heading back to the continent again in June after my Scottish and Irish Tours are over and visiting various cities in France, Germany, Switzerland and Italy. I also want to visit Brussels, Amsterdam, Barcelona and Madrid, if I have time!

In the meantime, here are some more glamorous portraits by Barrie Spence, taken in completely natural light :)

Tomorrow's photographer had to postpone so I have train tickets to get me to Sheffield but nothing to do when I get there! I may do some Googling and see if there's any touristy things to do there so I can have a little day out :) If not, I might just stay home and prep for Tuesday's shoot in Kent :)
