Vogue Italia, and an unusual assignment!

Facebook isn't letting me type anything atm, which is a bit infuriating as I need to update my Norfolk availability (see top of this page!) and wish Simon Buck and Stuart Bebb a happy birthday.

Oh well, time to blog some pretty pictures instead!

Can't believe I forgot to blog this photo by Marcus Jake from Vogue Italia's website!!!

My skin is cared for by Bareskin Beauty.

I love working with Marcus because he always comes up with such simple yet ingenious artistic concepts. This was made by shooting through a pane of glass that he's painted in preparation :) The emotional theme was feeling trapped, or rather, realising that you yourself are the only key to escaping your trap. I really enjoyed the acting/ performance art/ interpretive dance side of this shoot :)

In other news, I thought I must have covered just about every genre of modelling there is by now, until someone booked me as a male fashion model for a shoot on Saturday! It's not without precedent- I'm aware of one or two female fashion models who are also on the male boards at their agencies- but it's certainly an unusual challenge. I'm Googling images of male models (my job is such a drag sometimes) and I'm REALLY looking forward to it! I'm going to have to get my French manicure cut back, though!

2013 Review

Huge long blog post with tons of pictures alert- read only in cases of extreme boredom!

I decided to go back over my last year of blogs and pick out just three highlights from each month to summarise my year.

Some months it was hard to pick just three as there was so much going on, but I tried to be strict! I think it might help to see where I'm going if I can see where I've been.

Plus, it might be nice for any new readers to my blog to get caught up on what sort of things I post about :)

December

Well, after a whirlwind rush through a year in the life, here we are getting ready for January again. December isn't over till it's over so I don't want to list three highlights just yet ;) Although visiting both the National Galleries in the same week was definitely one of them. I also represented my latest sponsor, Anathema Designs jewellery, at Collective 159 Christmas Party on Camden High Street last night, which was a lot of fun. You wouldn't believe the amount of free cake and wine I was simply FORCED to consume!

My agencies have some potential exciting jobs still lined up for me this month, but I don't want to jinx it in case I don't get them! My main focus this month is really doing things like this, reviewing my life, taking stock, reflecting, recuperating and preparing for a hectic 2014.

Thanks for joining me on the journey and see you next year ♥

Then and now: #ThrowbackThursday and Vogue Italia

You know the kickass b&w nude I posted yesterday? Well, today Vogue Italia picked up another photo from the same shoot and published it on their site! The shoot was only 48 hours ago.

Photographer: Marcus Jake

And as it's #ThrowbackThursday today, here's another nude portrait of me from four years ago, by Darren Birkin. I think it's almost the same pose, but from a different perspective, yet it's such a different picture.

Good shoot today, doing my best Marlene Dietrich impression for a Parisian photographer in my 1930s lounge, wearing a vintage lace blouse trimmed in masses of black feathers.

Three looks to shoot in 5 hours tomorrow: fashion nude, latex and bridal, with me styling as well as modelling. For now, I'm sating my Breaking Bad addiction and drinking detox tea :)

Dare to be Different! British MODE magazine for Beyond Burlesque!

I have a double page spread in British MODE wearing Beyond Burlesque couture wedding dresses with Chloe-Jasmine Whichello :D The designer, Belinda Chorley, also designs forVivienne Westwood, who made Dita Von Teese's famous purple wedding gown for her marriage to Marilyn Manson. Interestingly, the dress I'm wearing here is an ivory homage to that very gown.

Photographer: Dave Kai-Piper | HMUA: Candy Alderson

I still need to track down a copy for my memories box! It's the October 2013 issue if anyone I know happens to spot one- please pick it up for me and I'll give you the £££!

It's pretty cool for me to be published in two high fashion magazines in the same month- Vogue and MODE. I wish I could go back in time to 14 year-old me, crushed that I'd not grown to 5'8 and therefore couldn't model, and tell her that everything is going to be okay!

Yours happily,

Published in British Vogue magazine!

Here's something I never thought I'd say- I've been published in Vogue!

I'm in an advertorial featuring Beyond Burlesque bespoke bridalwear called 'Vogue's Wedding Wishlist' on page 257 of the November "Autumn fashion" issue. I found out on Monday night and shot out of the house in dressing gown and flip-flops with only half my nails painted to try and track down a copy right away! Which I didn't actually need to do as two people on my Facebook page pm'd me scans, while I was running around East Finchley like an insane person, which was super sweet and kind, thank you :)

Photographer: Dave Kai-Piper | HMUA: Candy Alderson

The other model is Chloe-Jasmine Whichello, who I've worked with a couple of times now :) The funny thing is, I was actually filling in for another model who dropped out at the last minute. Why do people do that?? Anyway, it worked out well for me! I do have an actual copy of the magazine now, that is going in my memories box under my bed, once I've finished stroking it!

You might have seen Chloe-Jasmine on The Face atm, if you have the Living channel! She's on Naomi Campbell's team. I managed to watch a bit online last night, it looked harsh! I can watch anything involving Erin O'Connor though, I absolutely worship her!

Anyway, here's a BTS snap of me and C-J at the Beyond Burlesque/ Vogue shoot, which was shortly after The Face shoot wrapped, I think, because I remember us chatting about Naomi ;) Nothing C-J wasn't allowed to chat about, of course- I still don't know any better than you who's going to win! We'll have to watch and see!

A slightly less serious shot of me and C-J! We were channelling Eddie and Patsy :p

I've not really done much this morning except make a gluten-free vegan lasagne (no Bechamel sauce, mushrooms instead of mince and nutritional yeast instead of cheese) to pop in the oven when I get home from my job this afternoon, no doubt starving as usual! I may also make some butter-free garlic bread using olive oil, nomnomnom. Must get more admin done tomorrow though, I'm overwhelmed with emails, thousands of photos to sort through, shoots to organise etc atm! It's good to be in demand :)

Anatomic Bomb feature in The Bite magazine (lots of text, sorry. But shiny pretty latex models too!)

I'm WAY behind on posting my magazine appearances- they've been coming thick and fast over the last few months and I've been so busy shooting and travelling on different continents, writing The Ugly Girl's Guide to Becoming a Model (my complete start-to-finish guide to doing what I do- freelance modelling without an agency) and considering all sorts of ventures including things like GoGetSale (YOU can join in on that one- just click the link and sign in with your FB/ Twitter account to start earning cashback on everything you buy online), that I've just not kept up with blogging... at all, really.

Sorry :(

I even still need to post all the amazing pictures from my last Asian Tour in November/ December, where I did everything from attending marvellous Asian Couture Week in Singapore with the Head of Fashion Film from legendary fashion photographer Nick Knight's SHOWstudio, to riding on horseback around a Cambodian village and seeing how ordinary Cambodian people live (i.e. in poverty). It was a life-changing experience and yet I've not had time to share it with you- surely I will find time before I'm back shooting in SE Asia again for three weeks next month!!

Anyway!!!

I think this is the oldest publication that I haven't posted- part of a designer profile piece on Anatomic Bomb latex, a famous latex house who have dressed celebrities like Kate Moss, in the Autumn 2012 issue of The Bite magazine. I'm the one in the Dennis the Menace top on the top right; the photo is by Julian Kilsby and Leighanne Regan did the hair. (I did my own makeup.)

Click the pic for a larger view! I spot my friend Ulorin Vex in a similarly stripy dress on the bottom left! :)

Six other things going on (all I can think of off the top of my head!):
  1. Publications in The Bite, Skin Two, Next Page, Bella Morte and Alt fashion magazines (either out now or coming soon)
  2. Hong Kong, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Penang next month (woo, never been to Penang! KL is the only Malaysian city I've visited so far)
  3. Shoots for lots of new bondage websites (new to me)
  4. Cool photo shoots done, and more planned, with Lady Allura's Latex and Twilight Siren
  5. Enjoying a "staycation" at home in London for a whole week- much, much needed. There is only so long you can keep juggling at full capacity before you start to gibber and need to hit the reset button on your brain! Had a DVD double bill of The Devil Wears Prada and The September Issue last night and resolved to start buying Vogue again- I just love the pictures, and when you think about it, each issue is like an amazing value coffee table book :) It was incredible to see just how much intensive work goes into making it.
  6. Need to make a little 2 minute video of myself presenting, being a presenter, for my agency, so they can put me up for presenting jobs. Apparently clients have been asking after me but I don't have any experience to show them. Have to figure out what I'm going to be presenting to my iPad in my lounge for 2 minutes!
That's enough for now... I'll post some more publications next time :) In the meantime, there are a couple of new modelling photos on my Facebook, and here is a picture of my cat, Lilith, tucked up in bed with me and having a yawn. We're having that kind of a week ♥

Anita De Bauch vs Kate Moss

My agency sent me off on a rather exciting casting at the Groucho Club today for a job with a popular artist whose work explores and plays with the idea of "sleb" culture and how easily we can be misled by media representation of the "real" world, using only lookalikes of celebrities rather than the celebrities themselves.

This particular project involves making a super-realistic sculpture of Kate Moss and then photographing her with it. The artist saw my photos and measurements and wanted to see if I could be used to cast Kate's torso :)

  L - R: me, Kate Moss

All very flattering for me, of course, but gosh, the last 18 hours have been a bit of a nightmare!

It all began with me idly Googling "kate moss measurements" to see if I was an exact match or merely a very close match, only to discover that she was about an inch smaller all over than I thought she was. I then measured myself in front of the bathroom mirror and discovered that I was an inch bigger all over than I thought I was. Whether or not it was down to it being that time of the month was irrelevant. The casting was in 12 hours and I had 2" to lose on my bust, waist and hips!

I immediately took a probiotic, a milk thistle and a magnesium supplement with a glass of lemon water sprinkled with cayenne pepper. At my boyfriend's suggestion, I slept in a thermal vest with a blanket on top of the duvet to sweat out some water retention overnight. It worked- by morning I had lost an inch all over.

I then did some pilates to flatten my stomach with a cup of hot lemon water then had my breakfast smoothie sans banana and in a very hot Dead Sea salt bath to try and extract some more toxins. This was followed by organic coffee, whitened with coconut water, sprinkled with cinnamon and cocoa powder and served with lots of organic carrot sticks. After all this, I'd lost another inch on my bust and hips but still had one more to go round my waist- I was at 25" instead of the "correct" measurement of 24". I stayed in a tightlaced corset until I left for the casting and hoped that would at least mitigate it!

When I arrived at the Groucho Club I took some topless shots with the artist so she could record what I looked like. She said she'd been having real trouble finding someone both very slim yet not too muscular. I promptly sucked my stomach in to hide my extra inch, but apparently that made my ribs stick out too much, so I don't think I got the job :(

Life is surreal, isn't it? I never thought I'd be writing, "Dear Diary, Today I was turned down for the Kate Moss body double job at the Groucho Club because I'm too boney", but there you are. I feel silly whinging about it, even, but then, this is my blog, and I really wanted this job, it looks so cool :(

Anyway, onto positive things! I'm off to Scotland tomorrow to shoot at Barrie Spence's place and then on Monday I'm shooting a fantastic Klimt-inspired underwater art project with Ivory Flame. I've been wanting to shoot with her for literally years, so having her teach me how to model underwater will be a real treat! I've ordered some floaty skirts to wear as I think they'll look cool; hope they arrive in time!

Anyway, must dash! Sorry for the moaning, I hope you don't mind! My next blog will be much happier, I promise :)

Lots of love,

Anita xxx

What Katie Did Spring/ Summer 2012 Launch, and a brush with Vivienne Westwood!

Am I the only one who was secretly a little pleased when the unseasonably mild weather broke and the temperature dropped again? I was feeling a little sad to have to pack away my leather gloves, high heel boots and fur collection already! Now I get to wear them for a little longer, until it's time to figure out what I'm going to wear this summer!

Atm I'm thinking a 1940s/ 50s Hawaiian theme, with fitted print tie halter tops, pedal pushers, and Art Nouveau print A-line skirts with ballet pumps for everyday and some cute, retro playsuits with pretty headscarves! :) I may also get a high waisted two piece swimsuit for the Singapore beaches this winter, like the one I wore at the What Katie Did Spring/ Summer 2012 Launch show on Sunday, paired with a parasol!

Thanks to everyone who came to see the show, it was so lovely to see you there!

The show went really well. I also got to model some beautiful sheer black lingerie with a proper bullet bra and 6" heels that I will definitely share photos of, if I spot any anywhere!

The What Katie Did boutique is so pretty. It is in a powder blue and baby pink colour scheme (I adore pastels paired together like that!), in velvet and ostrich feathers and papered with the brand's many appearances in magazines like Vogue as well as snippets from vintage fetish cartoon magazines!

I could have spent all day in there, but after the show I was treated to a new bullet bra, satin six strap suspender belt and matching knickers, which I tucked into my bag and made a dash to Bond Street to meet the director and stylists of a short international art/ fashion film with Vivienne Westwood I was to star in that very evening! I will tell you more about it when I'm allowed!

I will leave you with a little snap of the shoes for the movie that I took on my phone!

The black patent ones by Fabulously Fetish will be turning up in my photo shoots, so look out for them ;)
